Monk’s casket business legal, says Court

“The monks of Saint Joseph Woodworks, part of the financial support for St. Joseph Abbey and Seminary College, can continue producing and selling their caskets, according to a ruling made Tuesday in the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. However, the Court has asked for a ruling from the Louisiana Supreme Court as to whether or not the Louisiana Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors regulation of the selling the Abbey’s handmade caskets is either unconstitutional or totally unauthorized by Louisiana law.

Either way, the Court has ruled the monks can indeed make and sell their caskets in the state of Louisiana.”
