Why We Need Medships

FDA’s claims over stem cells upheld: Drug watchdog wins right to regulate controversial therapies. This article that recently appeared in Nature relates one of the key reasons why we need medships. Once the FDA gets involved, costs skyrocket, corruption ensues, and innovation is strangled in the cradle. As I mentioned in the second of my two posts on medships, one of my main reasons for floating (ha ha) this idea was to provide medical innovators with a way to bypass the FDA. As the deadening hand of the out of control regulatory state becomes ever more burdensome, it is imperative to have a means to prevent medical breakthroughs from being stymied. Medships could be a viable and lucrative way to accomplish this goal.
